of Novels

Les Misérables (The Book) was written in 1862 by French author, Victor Hugo.

 

Les Misérables (The Musical) was written in 1980 by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum.

 

Wicked was written in 2003 by Stephen Schwartz, based on another book based on the original novel!

How to Adapt

a Book to

the Stage

Linking Activity

DIY Adaptation Kit:

  • Choose a scene from your favorite book, movie, or show.

 

  • Write a short description of the scene, focusing on the most important elements. (Plot, Emotions, Character Desires, etc.)

 

  • Choose a character or characters from the scene to be your “singer”.

 

  • Choose an instrumental version of your favorite song.

 

  • Draft your own musical version of your scene, changing the lyrics of your favorite song to lyrics sung by your character(s)!
